JESUS IS NOT ZEUS

THE ENGLISH NAME "JESUS" IS NOT DERIVED FROM THE NAME OF THE PAGAN GOD "ZEUS".



It has been stated that the English name Jesus is derived from the name of the Greek god Zeus. There is no evidence to support that theory. Even so, that theory, without any solid evidence in its support, is being presented as fact. This is outright deception. It is confusing; and God is not the author of confusion.

Scriptures tell us that we are to "prove all things." In an effort to do so, I visited the epigraphical museum in Athens Greece, as well as many sites associated with Zeus and his supposed son Dionysius to study inscriptions in order to determine if there could be any possible connection between the name Jesus and the name Zeus.
There is no connection!

The Greek name Zeus is spelled entirely different from the Greek transliteration of the Hebrew name Yeshua. The Greek spelling of the name Zeus would be the equivalent of the English spelling DIOS. The name we pronounce Zeus starts with a D.

It has also been stated that the English name Jesus is associated with the name of Dionysius, the son of Zeus.

That is not true.


As seen in the inscription above, the name Dionysius also begins with the Greek letters for the name Zeus (DIO) and is in no way similar to the Greek spelling of the English name Jesus.

The supposition that the English name Jesus is derived from the name of the pagan god Zeus is now being taught as fact. It is being preached from pulpits and appears in popular books. The result is that unsuspecting people are being persuaded that the basis of the New Testament, that is Greek manuscripts, cannot be trusted. They are encouraged to believe that the Greek writers had an agenda to intentionally corrupt our New Testaments.

In an effort to determine the truth I personally made a trip to Greece to study inscriptions and to talk with experts concerning the name Zeus. The conclusion of my investigation is that there is no association with the name Zeus and that of Jesus.

Those who attempt to pronounce the name of Messiah in a proper manner are to be commended. Those who present unsupported theories as fact must stop. It is confusing and God is not the author of confusion.

JOSHUA: was the word chosen by the King James translators to represent the Hebrew spelling of the Biblical Joshua before Ezra and Nehemiah. This word is pronounced YAH HO SHUA or YEH HO SHUA by those living in Israel today. It seems that the HO pronunciation is due to the addition of the vowels of Adonay to the word YHWH, in order to remind the reader to pronounce Adonay instead of YHWH, and that the most pure pre- Babylonian Hebrew pronunciation would be YA-hu-SHOOa. The word is a combination of YAH and Oshea. The word means YAH is Salvation.


"I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive." ......John 5:43

We read in in the King James version of Numbers 13:8-16 : Send thou men, that they may search the land of Canaan,... of the tribe of Ephraim, Oshea the son of Nun. ......And Moses called Oshea the son of Nun Jehoshua.

After the Babylonian captivity the Hebrew spelling changed. Linguists indicate that this is the "short form" of the name of Joshua that appears in earlier scripture. This word is pronounced YES SHUA by those living in Israel today.

IESOUS: was the word chosen by the writers of the Greek New Testament to represent both the Hebrew Old Testament Joshua and the English New Testament Jesus.


This word was derived by way of transliteration (the representation of the sounds of the Hebrew word Yeh Shua with the Greek letters having the closest corresponding sound.)

JESUS: was the word chosen by the King James translators to represent the Hebrew spelling of the Biblical Joshua Yeh Shua after Ezra and Nehemiah. This word was also derived by way of transliteration ( the representation of the sounds of the Greek word IESOUS with the English letters having the closest corresponding sound.)


The English Name Jesus is an excellent transliteration of the Hebrew name Yeshua which means YAH is SALVATION.

THE NAME OF JESUS DEFENDED (Exclusive)

“The Controversy Surrounding the Use of the Name Jesus”

For many years there has been an ongoing controversy regarding the validity of using the name of Jesus instead of “Yeshua”, “Yahoshua”, “Yahshua”, or some other name. There are numerous reasons given for rejecting the name “Jesus” as the true name of the Messiah, three of which are in this chapter. These three were chosen because they seem to be prevalent today:

1)The name “Jesus” is not the original Hebrew name for the Christ, therefore it should not be used.

2)The name “Jesus” is a pseudo-name for the Greek god Zeus and,

3)The letter “J” was not in the Old English language and therefore Jesus could not possibly be the appropriate name for the Messiah.

Regarding original Hebrew, what people must understand is that almost every name can be translated or transliterated from language to language, and the name of “Jesus” is no different. For instance, in Revelation both “Abbadon” and “Apollyon” mean the exact same thing-Destroyer:

“And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.” (9:11)

The “Zeus controversy” is simply an issue of transliteration. The name “Jesus” comes into English from the New Testament, which was written in Greek. In the Greek alphabet there was not a way to express the “sh” sound to fully transliterate the name “Yeshua” into Greek. This is how we came to get “Iesous”. Since the ending of the word “Iesous” is “sous” some have claimed that there existed an evil plot to replace the name of the Messiah with one that means “Zeus” or “son of Zeus.” This is inaccurate for several reasons.

Reason #1 (Spelling)

“Iesous” and “Zeus” would be spelled Ιησούς. “Zeus” would be spelled Ζεύς. Nor does “Iesous” mean “the son of Zeus”. In Ancient Greek, the son of Zeus would be spelled as follows, “ho huios tou Dios” or actually “o uiob tou Dios”, not as Iesous.

Reason #2 (Pronunciation)

In Ancient Greek, the word “Zeus” is not pronounced as “Zoos.” The letter “Z” actually sounded like the “d” and “z” and when put together “dz.” Also the diphthongs “ou” in Iesous is pronounce “oo”. But “eu” woulb be pronounced as eh-uh”.

So how do we end up with the name “Jesus”? Some would argue that there was no “J” in the Old English alphabet, which further supports the notion that the name “Jesus” is objectionable. However, the name “Jesus” has simply gone through changes, in conjunction with the English language. It is true that the name “Jesus” in Old English would not have been spelled using the letter “J”. In the 16th century Jesus was spelled “Iesu.” During the 17th century the “J” replaced the “I” to make “Jesu” and by the 18th century the “s” was added to make “Jesus”. The name “Jesus” known today has simply evolved linguistically along with the entire English language.

The Holy Bible is a very specific book which outlines what is acceptable and unacceptable concerning the worship of God. There are hundreds of laws contained in the Holy Bible, none stating that the Messiah’s name cannot be translated or transliterated into other languages. It is only logical that people speak the name of the Messiah in their own language. It was God who confused the languages during the days of the Tower of Babel. And to state that an individual can only say the name of the Messiah in a language which is no longer spoken is nonsensical. For it is written:

“Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts. For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little: For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.” (Isaiah 28:9-11)

For those who deny the name of Jesus I believe that the question to ask is not whether or not the name “Jesus” is accurate. But ask, “If the name is actually ‘Yeshua’ or ‘Yahoshua’ was this individual God in the beginning and is he the Messiah that was prophesied by the Prophets?” Are we speaking of the same individual? If we are, there should be no problem if one who speaks English uses the name “Jesus”. Just the same, there is no problem if one who truly speaks Hebrew speaks the Messiah’s name in the Hebrew language.

"To distinguish him from others so called, he is spoken of as "Jesus of Nazareth" (John 18:7), and "Jesus the son of Joseph" (John 6:42). "This is the Greek form of the Hebrew name Joshua, which was "originally Hoshea (Num. 13:8, 16), but changed by Moses into" "Jehoshua (Num. 13:16; 1 Chr. 7:27), or Joshua. After the Exile" "it assumed the form Jeshua, whence the Greek form Jesus. It was" "given to our Lord to denote the object of his mission, to save" (Matt. 1:21). What Makes Me A Hebrew?

The following was in response to the question in caps:
WHAT ABOUT OUR MIXED BLOOD, MY GREAT GREAT GREAT GRANDFATHER WAS WHITE, AM I STILL A HEBREW?
Of course you are still Hebrew, the Majority of our blood remains Hebrew. As was just explained in the question above, the curses are the dividing factor in determining what people / nations are Israelites. The scriptures give a strong indication that whomever is born through the seed of an Israelite man or through the womb of an Israelite woman is an Israelite. Two prime examples:

What made Yahshuah the messiah an Israelite?

Yahshuah the Messiah was an Israelite but He had no earthly father, so what made him an Israelite? He was born through the womb of an Israelite woman. We can't say he was an Israelite because Yah is an Israelite.....Yah is not an Israelite he is the father / mighty one of Israel. By Yahshuah coming through an Israelite woman this made him an Israelite. The scriptures seem to indicate that whom ever comes through Israel, through the seed of the man or the womb of an Hebrew Woman is an Israelite.

Romans 9:4 Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of Yah, and the promises;

5 Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Messiah came, who is over all, Yah blessed for ever. Amen.

Next Example , when our sisters were on the plantations being raped by Gentile slave masters what happen to those children that were born to them.? They were thrown out into the field to suffer the curses just as the rest of Israel. They were not put on high to live as Gentiles. Remember Yah is not the author of confusion he said the curses are for the Israelite descendants only Deut 28:46,

45 Moreover all these curses shall come upon thee, and shall pursue thee, and overtake thee, till thou be destroyed; because thou hearkenedst not unto the voice of the Yah your holy one, to keep his commandments and his statutes which he commanded thee:

46 And they shall be upon thee for a sign and for a wonder, and upon Your seed (descendants) for ever.

History Proves those children born between Hebrew woman and Gentile slave masters suffered the same faith as the rest of Israel. They were lynched, taken away from their mothers and given to another people etc etc. This is the sign that they were Israelites, the curses are for a sign and wonder.

By those children coming through the womb of an Israelite woman made them Israel, just as it did for Yahshuah. Israel is a special seed, if an Israelite man fathers a child, that child is an Israelite, if an Hebrew woman have a child by an Gentile that child is still an Israelite. We have proof of that today, how many "bi-racial" people (Hebrew and Gentile) have you seen identify themselves as white? Not many, most of them look Hebrews in Physical Appearance, and this is who they are identified with. They are still considered to be Hebrew.

Ezekiel 47:21 So shall ye divide this land unto you according to the tribes of Israel.

22 And it shall come to pass, that ye shall divide it by lot for an inheritance unto you, and to the strangers that sojourn among you, which shall beget children among you: and they shall be unto you as born in the country among the children of Israel; they shall have inheritance with you among the tribes of Israel.

As was stated the majority of our blood is Hebrew, we as group on average have 80-90%Israelite genes. Hebrew Genes carry the dominate traits, Gentiles genes are recessive. Think on this for a moment. How is it possible for 10-20% of recessive genes to outweigh 80-90% of the dominate genes? It can't happen. Think about this also lets say BILL CLINTON, BILL GATES, GEORGE BUSH SR AND JR, TOM CRUISE ETC ALL HAVE A BLACK ANCESTOR WHO WAS A SLAVE. But the majority of their ancestors are not Hebrews but Europeans, they may have 97% gentile blood in their veins, which would make them gentiles as we can see from their outward appearance. Would you call or consider BILL CLINTON, BILL GATES, GEORGE BUSH SR AND JR, TOM CRUISE HEBREWS OR BLACK MEN. NO, but more importantly are they or their people suffering from the curses in Lev 26 and Deut 28: the answer to that is NO. So they wouldn't be considered Israelites.

REMEMBER THE CURSES ARE FOR ISRAELITES ONLY. ISRAEL MUST SUFFER THESE CURSES AS A NATION OF PEOPLE, JUST AS WE ARE. IF WE ARE NOT THE DESCENDANTS OF ISRAEL BECAUSE OF A LITTLE MIX BLOOD.....THEN WE SHOULDN'T BE IN THIS DOWN TRODDEN STATE JUST AS SCRIPTURE SAYS ISRAEL WOULD BE. IF WE ARE GENTILES BECAUSE WE HAVE A LITTLE GENTILE BLOOD, THEN WHY AREN'T WE LIVING AND BEING TREATED AS GOOD AS THEY ARE?,

Deut 28:46 And they shall be upon thee for a sign and for a wonder, and upon Your seed (descendants) for ever.

Don't forget Israel entered Egypt 70 in number, they sojoured in that land among the black egyptians for 430 years. By the time of the Exodus, there were well over a million Israelites leaving Egypt. How did they get such a large population, the answer is simple, they mixed with the Egyptians.

Zionism Unveiled's First Commemorative

July 31, 2010 commemorates Zionism Unveiled’s first anniversary of independent research and reporting.
