The debacle in Egypt has swept American telecasts for several weeks now. But let's explore some facts regarding the United States' relationship with Egypt:
1) Egypt is the one of the biggest recipients of US economic and development assistance: $28billion since 1975, according to a USAid report. Only Israel, Pakistan and Afghanistan have received more cash.
2) Egypt is the second-biggest recipient (behind the State of Israel) of US military aid: over $1.3billion a year.
3) The US State Department describes Egypt as "a strong military and strategic partner of the United States".
4) According to the Federation of American Scientists' Arms Sales Monitoring Project, "The United States sells Egypt a large amount of military equipment and a significant number of small arms; such weaponry is both likely to be used for internal security and difficult to track once sold."

Here are the sentiments of the American President Barack Hussein Obama regarding the villainous dictator Hosni Mubarak in August 2009:

"I am grateful to President Mubarak for his visit, for his willingness to work with us on these critical issues, and to help advance the interest of peace and prosperity around the world."

President Obama described Mubarak as a "leader and a counselor and a friend to the United States". So then how could have Mubarak turned villain in 6 months, or so?

President Bush, before him, also lauded Mubarak with accolades by stating in April 2004, "I'm pleased to welcome my friend, Hosni Mubarak, to my home. Welcome. I always look forward to visiting with him, and I look forward to hearing his wise counsel . . . Egypt is a strategic partner of the United States and we value President Mubarak's years of effort on behalf of the peace and stability of the Middle East."

And is this supposed to be an enemy Arab nation, as portrayed by our Zionist-controlled media?

Let's think for a minute, "How would a defenseless, armless, inexperienced and oppressed population overthrow a regime that has brutalized and terrorized them for the past 30 years?" What is occurring in Egypt is a transference of power to different personages who govern behind the scenes. What is presented to us is a 'Popular Revolution', which is none other than an assault upon the weakness of our intellectual gullibility.

Let's look at the United Kingdom for a moment. The UK is the largest foreign investor in Egypt. According to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, "The UK is the largest foreign investor in Egypt, with cumulative investments across a wide range of sectors, including oil and gas, financial services, tourism, pharmaceuticals, telecommunications, textiles and consumer goods estimated at £10 Billion. There are around 900 UK companies invested in Egypt, who are increasingly looking at Egypt as a hub from which to develop business in the region as a whole."

Egypt is a palatable and economically profitable playing field, as stated before, for different personages who govern behind the scenes who disguise themselves as the bearers of 'democracy' and 'freedom' to the down-trodden masses!

Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, the gallant champion for freedom and democracy in the so-called 'Middle East', visited Egypt with his family for vacation on numerous occasions. He's had a plethora of power meetings with Mubarak, but never chastised him in the manner that he now chastises, say, the country of Iran. Shamefully, Blair, while in office as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, allowed Mubarak to finance his family's luxury vacation at the Red Sea resort of Sham-el-Sheikh in December 2001. Was he overwhelmingly concerned about the freedom and human rights of political prisoners being held in Egyptian prisons while he sun-bathed in his vacation villa, as a guest under Hosni Mubarak's dictatorship?

Hypocrisy is the unspoken rule in international politics. We as a nation are not in posession of allies but interests. Even our 'special relationship' with the State of Israel is one of political interest and not some moral 'Judeo-Christian' sentiment. Some have even argued that our relationship with the State of Israel is more of a liability, than a strategic asset!

Returning to Egypt. Do you really believe that unarmed protestors surrounded and forced an armed military personnel out of a government vehicle, for example? How could the civilians overthrow a government that they have not managed in 30 years without an external and well-financed power apparatus backing the 'revolution'? There is no way that protestors, armed with pea-shooters and a lot of determination, could overthrow a regime thoroughly advanced in statecraft! The 'revolution' was scripted and stage-managed like our school curriculums here in the States.

And don't be fooled by selective media footage and carefully chosen soundbytes that make you believe in a reality that is not only an audio-visual fabrication, but a titanic impossibility.

The Case for YAHWEH

Introduction

The subject of the name of our Heavenly Father is basically a very difficult one. It has been ingrained in us from childhood to call our Heavenly Father God, Lord, Jesus and all the other names we have learned. Now today we are going to have to do as the Messiah taught us, we have to become as little children.

This particular subject is probably one of the most difficult subjects to actually practice in all the Kingdom Identity Messages. It is to repent and come back and get rid of all those old names that we have been taught by our mothers and our fathers and our schools and our churches all our lives. And admit to the fact that they may be wrong.

Let us go through Scripture today and become as little children and see if we can beak all of those old habits because the Father wants us to turn around an go down the right path because He wants repentance which means to turn around and come back to Him.

The Importance of His Name - The only name by which we are saved

Exodus 3:13-15 (KJV): "And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?

And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.

And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, the LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations."

Isaiah 42:8 "I am YHWH (Strong's Hebrew Word #3068, YHWH): that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images."

Psalms 83:18 "That men may know that thou, whose name alone is YHWH, art the most high over all the earth."

Psalms 68:4 (KJV) "Sing unto God, sing praises to his name: extol him that rideth upon the heavens by his name JAH, and rejoice before him."

Note here the KJV uses the word "JAH", which is translated from Strong's Hebrew Word #3050, which is a contraction of Hebrew Word #3068.

The KJV should have tranlated the above as "Yah", as there was no "J" sound in Hebrew. "Yah" is the last part of the word "halleluYah." HalleluYah is the most ancient of all words of praise and means "praise Yah."

YHWH’s Name Has Been Edited Out of Most Bible Translations

Yahweh’s Name doesn’t appear even one time in the text of the three most popular English Bible translations on the market today. The King James Bible, the New American Standard Bible, and the New International Version substitute the titles “LORD” and “GOD” with all the letters capitalized where the Name “Yahweh” actually belongs. Jewish religious leaders introduced this tradition in the mid-2nd century B.C., and it has continued since that time. This man-made tradition, which achieved near-universal acceptance in 1611 A.D. when the King James Bible editors failed to include the Name ”Yahweh” in their inaugural edition, is wrong and dangerous for two reasons. First, it nullifies Yahweh’s explicit command to tell the world that we have only One God—Yahweh. Second, according to the Bible, Yahweh is the only Name in which we have salvation. [2]

The Enemy has attempted to blot out His name:

In today's modern translations, ALL the place names and the personal names, which originally bore the glory of Yahweh's Name, have been changed; every trace of Yahweh's Name is hidden. The result of this is: a student can read the majority of the later English translations of the Scriptures, and the NAME of the ONLY ONE Who inspired those Scriptures to be written, is not even hinted at!

According to the inspired prophecies, the Messiah's Name was to MEAN: Yahweh is Salvation; which is exactly what the Name Yahushua means!

Joshua means "YHWH is Salvation" (Strong's). The Savior was named Yahushua because that is what the angel said it was supposed to mean. Yahushua literally means YHWH is salvation: "He (YHWH) shall save His (YHWH's) people from their sins." Psalm 100 and Strong's concordance or your dictionary will confirm this fact. [3]

Bible Translators and Scholars Acknowledge the Name of the Creator is YHWH

In the introduction to the Moffatt Translation (pp. 20-21), James Moffat makes it clear that he would have no hesitation about using the Name Yahweh in his translation if he had intended it for students of the original Scriptures.

We find in the preface to the Goodspeed translation: "The Hebrews called their deity by the name Yahweh, and in shorter form Yah." This source admits to using substitutes for the Name Yahweh.

The Revised Standard Version says at Exodus 3:15, "The word of the LORD when spelled with capital letters stands for the divine name YHWH, which is here connected with the verb hayah, to be."

The New Catholic Bible (Catholic Bible Press), at Exodus 3:14 notes, "I am who I am" ; apparently this utterance is the source of the word Yahweh; the proper, personal name of the God of Israel... , Out of reverence for this name the term 'Adonai,' 'my Lord,' was used as a substitute. The word Lord in the present version represents this traditional usage. The word Jehovah arose from a false reading of this name as it is written in the current Hebrew text."

In the International Bible Encyclopedia of the King James Version published by Garden City Publishing Co., we note the following under the heading "Jehovah": "It is believed that the correct pronunciation of this word is 'Yahweh.' "

In the Jewish Encyclopedia (volume 7, p. 88) is this revealing statement: "The reading Jehovah is a comparatively recent invention. Jehovah is generally held to have been the invention of Pope Leo the 10th's confessor, Peter Galatin (De Arcanis Catholic Veritates 1518, Folio XLIII), who was followed in the use of this hybrid form by Fagius Drusius."

A new Standard Bible Dictionary states, "Jehovah... properly Yahweh... the form 'Jehovah' is impossible, according to the strict principles of Hebrew vocalization." (There was no "J" in the original Hebrew, nor in Greek for that matter. Modern Hebrew has no "J".)

From the preface to the Holy Name Bible, published by the Scripture Research Association, is the following: "Another common error among most of the translators is their elimination of heaven's revealed Name of the Most High, Yahweh, and the Name of His Son, Yahushua the Messiah, and the substitution of the names of the local deities of the nations among whom they dwelt (Psalm 96:5), expressly transgressing Yahweh's commandments as given in Exodus 20:7 and 23:13.

"The substitution of the Names Yahweh and Yahushua by the names of the pagan deities of the nations has brought immeasurable harm… By employing these names the people unknowingly turn the worship of Yahweh into that of idols and actually ascribe the benevolent characteristics of the Mighty One of Israel to the pagan deities (Hosea 2:8)."

On page 7 of this source we read, "His Name is composed of two parts: Yah-Hoshua (Savior). Thus the contraction Yahushua signifies Yahweh-Savior and strikingly bears out the logic of Matthew 1:21."

From Common Secular Sources

From the Oxford Cyclopedic Concordance is this on page 121: "Jehovah, the name revealed to Moses at Horeb… Its real pronunciation is approximately Yahweh. The name itself was not pronounced Jehovah before the 16th century."

Encyclopaedia Britannica (Micropedia, vol. 10): Although Christian scholars after the Renaissance and Reformation periods used the term Jehovah for YHWH, in the 19th and 20th centuries biblical scholars again began to use the form Yahweh. Early Christian writers, such as Clement of Alexandria in the 2nd century, had used the form Yahweh, thus this pronunciation of the Tetragrammaton was never really lost. Greek transcriptions also indicated that YHWH should be pronounced Yahweh."

Webster's New World Dictionary - "Yahweh… a form of the Hebrew name in the Old Testament. See Tetragrammaton."

The New American Encyclopedia notes this under Jehovah, "(properly Yahweh) a name of the [Mighty One] of Israel, now widely regarded as a mispronunciation of the Hebrew YHWH."

Editor's Note: The Name of God is not a huge preoccupation for me. I believe the Creator sees the position of the heart and NOT the declaration of the tongue. She doesn’t read newspapers or publications. She shoots moose from helicopters. She says she can see Russia from her house in Alaska. She's been convinced that she should consider running for President by her base of low-information voters. And she's now giving it very serious consideration. If she doesn’t run, can she still be a major factor in the Republican campaign and be a determining factor in their outcome? “You betcha”. She’s been marketed as the American everywoman, the hockey mom, and the “Mama grizzly”. She bakes cookies, looks hot in a swimsuit, and packs a shotgun. Those are her qualifications. Her supporters seem to overlook the fact that she quit halfway through her term as governor due to ethics charges, doesn't have a firm grasp on the issues, and holds views that are more reactionary and contrarian than they are truly conservative. Our elected officials should be from among our best and brightest individuals. But instead, we vote for the most telegenic candidate, the least intellectually challenging candidate, or the one who's just more familiar. Unfortunately, what she really represents are twin evils that are disturbingly prevalent in American society: arrogance and ignorance. Having strong opinions is no substitute for actually being informed. When faced with facts that don’t fit seamlessly into an individual’s belief system, the mind often automatically rejects the presented facts, thereby strenghtening the individual’s belief system while keeping him or her further away from actual dynamic human enlightenment. Instead the person becomes a robotic reciter of rhetoric that’s easily disproven by the facts and the evidence. That archetype has a champion in Sarah Palin.

I don’t believe, however, that her incendiary statements bear responsibility for the attempted murder of Congresswoman Gabby Giffords and the murder of six innocent bystanders in Tucson several weeks back. At least not based on the available evidence. The assailant, by all accounts, was a deeply disturbed and lost individual who was in desperate need of the psychiatric care that many knew he needed but weren’t concerned enough to urge him to get. There’s no doubt that we live in a violent country. America was born of violence and the belief that one group of people deserved the liberty and self-determination that they denied others. But almost two and a half centuries later, although we’ve made a lot of progress, we still have a long way to go in terms of cultivating a national culture of truly free and free-thinking human beings who have an equal opportunity to excel and succeed no matter what their race, creed, color, nationality, or economic class. There's an alarming percentage of people in America who's programming since birth has been one of false beliefs, emotional disconnect, apathy, and aggressive predisposition. This can be a highly combustible mixture in a country with so many loud rabble-rousing media figures. America does very little in terms of insuring that each citizen has the real opportunity to develop into being fully cognizant, and intellectually and spiritually aware. What we do have is a culture that calls those who think independently and outside the mainstream crazy, while those who follow the herd and repeat the legendary lying lore of American history are called patriots.

This state of affairs is simply not sustainable. We just can't go on pretending that we can trust our own party's politicians to act in our best interests, that our current system of government and society works to our benefit, or that being informed and intelligent generally doesn't matter because we can still get by with what we already have. But the things we own don't make us free. The things we believe do. In this system that encourages us to act and think in a reflexive, rote, and robotic fashion in reaction to complex issues, we will all be lost unless we claim our humanity. Amassing new information, gaining wisdom through application of it, and expanding our individual consciousness for the benefit of the collective are the very things that make us vibrant human beings. Our counterparts in the animal kingdom also exhibit the obligation of community. They also act singularly for the benefit of the group. But you will never see a member of an animal collective acting in a manner that's contrary to the herd. What distinguishes us as humans is our ability to think independently, to weigh facts in a cogent and rational manner, and to come to unpopular conclusions and to stand by them with total conviction, despite the ridicule or the rage of the prevailing popular opinion. The bold discoveries made and proclaimed by learned men and women, often to their own detriment, have charted the course for our development as a people. That's how we evolve as a society.

One institutional impediment to free thinking is the routine and mechanized mode of learning propagated by our school system. What it teaches is that absorbing and regurgitating information without dissecting and analyzing its merits is what is acceptable. Anything contrary to that will not be tolerated. We're told that if you can recite the steady bits of data that are uploaded into your brain when it comes to test time, then that's all you need to graduate and become a fully dynamic human being, when it really just prepares you for working in a cubicle, playing your role in the assembly line of commerce without preparing you to be an agent of growth and opportunity for all who participate in this system. Provisions are made for the comparatively smaller percentage of students who attend the elite public, private, and Ivy League institutions, with the goal of having them contribute their talents to society and to the ruling class, at the expense of granting universal access to success tools and methods to all students. With funding for arts, music, and sports also being cut at an unbelievable rate in primary and secondary schools, and with brain-deadening junk food being pushed like drugs on television, kids today are being forced to grow up in a learning environment that discourages them from actually learning and growing intellectually. The process of learning involves imbuing one's own personal and individual experience and powers of reasoning upon the information being received in order to evolve in thought and consciousness as a result of this newly acquired information. With the restrictive assembly line system of education that exists here in the U.S., our children are being taught things, but they're not really learning much of anything at all.

Our children are not evolving into free-thinking, independent, well-informed change agents that will lead our society towards greater human development. They're graduating at abysmal levels and without knowing the truth regarding world and local events, and they form a highly skewed opinion of the way things work in this world. Every baby is born with with incredibly expansive intellectual abilities, but instead of having these abilities nurtured by our school system as they get older, they're instead given blinders and they learn not to question information, and to accept the simplest possible explanation regarding complex historic events. As a result of this programming, a sizeable percentage of Americans believe the lie that Abraham Lincoln supported racial equality, that Christopher Columbus discovered America, and that the Greeks brought enlightenment to the world by developing their array of knowledge on their own, instead of the truth that they received their deep well of information by studying Egyptians and other learned African societies that had navigated the world way before the Westerners had. This is chronicled in works by acclaimed and noteworthy historians such as Martin Bernal in "Black Athena" and Dr.Yosef Ben-Jochannan in "Africa: Mother of Western Civilization". Most Americans also believe that a lone Muslim zealot orchestrated the circumvention of the most powerful national security apparatus on Earth with a dozen and a half of his foot-soldiers, leading to the deaths of almost 3000 people on American soil. From a cave. One needs only to use his or her own powers of reason, and to suspend all the programming and social doctrine that we've uploaded into our consciousness to deduce what the truth is in light of the evidence of who truly benefits from the current state of perma-war and terrorism hysteria in which we find ourselves. But instead, we wave the flag and chant the chants, blindly proclaiming how much better we are than everyone else in the world.

Much of our social acculturation is guided by the second institutional impediment to free-thinking, which is the media. The media dictates how we think, what we wear, and what we eat. It tells us who to like and who to hate. It teaches us to make heroes out of those who appeal to our baser nature, and to dismiss those who stand for radical truth and champion individual thought. The current meme in today's media is anti-intellectual narcissism. As you read this, more people will have watched the latest antics of a bunch of hopped-up near-Neanderthals frolicking by the Jersey Shore than will have watched to see how an IBM-created supercomputer programmed to replicate the thinking patterns of humans in response to spoken language will fare on Jeopardy against that show's two greatest contestants. And this is all to the benefit of a ruling class that does all it can to insure that we remain entranced and unaware of what's really going on behind the curtain, and just how deep the rabbit hole goes. The last thing they want is a true revolution of ideas that brings forth real change in our society. They fear our evolution from our programmed artificial reality into real live, dynamic, spiritual, and conscious human beings. When that occurs, and when we accept the truth regarding our true nature as avatars of God that are meant to live abundantly and with abiding respect for each other's right to be free, the power structure will lose its means of sustenance, and the bought-and-paid-for politicians, media talking heads, and social standard-bearers that they appoint to regulate us like a shepherd's sheepdog will no longer have any influence.

But if we don’t speak truth to power and rage against the machine which feeds off our fear and misery, then we may soon witness the fulfillment of the kind of dystopia described in “1984“ and “A Brave New World”, where we retreat from reality into a world of steadily dehumanizing technology and machines, and indulge in increasingly soulless and ephemeral distractions, while our every thought, will, and action is controlled and dictated by a state claiming to be acting in our own best interest when they, in effect, are using us as batteries, draining away our life energy. Facebook and other social media sites have largely become marketing and information-gathering entities for the corporate state, but as with all technology, we can use it effectively as an engine of change, real social connection and expansion, and a tool for a viable progressive movement. The free-thinking humans of the world are beginning to unite. We see evidence of the burgeoning of a real revolution. We have to ensure that the spark catches fire until we burn down the entire house of cards. We have everything to gain, and really nothing to lose but our chains and our programming.

The World Is Run By A Code (EXCLUSIVE)

Those who run the world run it by a code. That code, as described by the economic theorist Herbert Spencer and the biologist Charles Darwin, is the survival of the fittest. Only the strong survive. And the strongest will be the ultimate survivor. That strength, however, is never solely physical. Baby Doc Duvalier, the tyrant who controlled Haiti with an iron fist for decades up until the coup that ran him off into asylum in France, has landed back in Haiti and is allowed to walk as a free man. They say that criminals often return to the scene of the crime, but the real perpetrators and sponsors of chaos, terror, and human rights violations in nations like Haiti have never left, though. Our own government, at the behest of multinational corporations, and with the collusion of the other Western superpowers, ensures that the poor people of the world who live in so-called third world nations never rise up out of their misery. They are coddled with meager charity funding, the bulk of which goes into the pockets of corrupt officials, and saddled with predatory IMF and World bank loans. We invade and decimate nations under the guise of liberation from so-called terrorists, while we fund brutal dictatorships that provide us with access to their vast reserves of natural resources. And we continue to preach about democracy and freedom.

Now we see the citizens of our allied nation of Egypt rising up against their despot who’s ruled them for thirty years. The stark lies about Africa, Carribbean nations, and Middle eastern nations being barren and bereft of any real wealth aside from sugar cane, bananas, spices and a few pockets of diamonds, gold, and oil get blared constantly through the western media. The truth is the exact opposite. These nations are replete with fossil fuels, precious gems, and rare earths, which are precious metals that are used to power our cell phones, laptops, flat screens, cars, and airplanes. Without access to these resources, much of our modern Western lifestyle would grind to a screeching halt.What most of the leaders of these nations ask for is an equitably negotiated compensation deal that’ll benefit the people of their societies, or no deal at all. But we don’t play fair, and we don’t believe we should have to pay for what we can just take. This is classic kleptocratic ideology.

What we have isn’t just military might, it’s scientific and technological superiority as well as the power of a corrupt activist media that serves the corporate agenda with the goal of suppressing our consciousness and our ability to think rationally as opposed to emotionally. We as a people have fallen into a state of somnambulism. We’re sleepwalking, numbed to the facts regarding the realities of our government’s corrupt allegiance to corporate America by the very media entities that profit from this allegiance. So instead of a spotlight investigation of Monsanto and its sale of genetically modified seeds to African nations that render the farmland inarable after their use, necessitating a constant replenishing of these same toxic seeds, we get in-depth interviews with Snookie and the Situation.

How many Americans are aware of “The Project For A New American Century”? It’s a conservative Republican think-tank that produced a treatise back in 1999 titled “Restoring America’s Forces”, in which they detailed the steps that America needed to take in order to re-establish military and financial dominance in the new millenium. They proposed the invasion of Middle eastern nations such as Iraq and Iran with the goal of deposing their regimes and controlling their oil supply. They advocated the creation of U.S. Space Forces, which would be the fifth faction of our armed services. And most insidiously, they advised that weather modification technology be used as a weapon of war. This means that the technology devised by the pacifist and progressive scientist Nikola Tesla 100 years ago to provide free electricity to all people through the harnessing of electrons in the atmosphere and the ionosphere, should now be used to create earthquakes, hurricanes, lightning strikes, and tsunamis in the theater of war to provide U.S. forces with full spectrum dominance. They stated that in order for this plan to be executed, a “Pearl Harbor type event” must occur, which would rile up the public and garner sufficient support for a “war on terror”. What most Americans don’t know is that Haiti, Afghanistan, and Pakistan have massive reserves of untapped oil, natural gas and those very crucial rare earths that power our technology, with Afghanistan also having the world’s greatest poppy field supply. You do the math.

What Americans are unaware of as well is that the Statue of Liberty actually represents Queen Semiramis, also known as Columbia, who was a goddess worshipped in ancient Babylon and ever since by members of the secret societies and ruling families of the world. The rays that crown her head symbolize her illumination and spiritual power. The torch she holds represents the light of knowledge that only the privileged few obtain and use to rule the oblivious masses. Knowledge truly is power. And if those in power keep those they rule in the dark, then they can get away with almost anything. We can point fingers and weapons at nations that we deem terrorist, while we act like the illest thug on the block. And just like any true gangsta, we don’t take no for an answer. So when you see us coming, lock your doors and hide your jewels. Or stand up and speak the truth.

THE MOORISH CONQUEST OF SPAIN

Early in the eighth century Moorish soldiers crossed over from Africa to the Iberian peninsula. The man chosen to lead them was General Tarik ibn Ziyad. In 711, the bold Tarik, in command of an army of 10,000 men, crossed the straits and disembarked near a rock promontory which from that day since has borne his name--Djabal Tarik (`Tarik's Mountain'), or Gibraltar. In August 711, Tarik won paramount victory over the opposing European army. On the eve of the battle, Tarik is alleged to have roused his troops with the following words:

"My brethren, the enemy is before you, the sea is behind; whither would ye fly? Follow your general; I am resolved either to lose my life or to trample on the prostrate king of the Romans."

Wasting no time to relish his victory, Tarik pushed on with his dashing and seemingly tireless Moorish cavalry to the Spanish city of Toledo. Within a month's time, General Tarik ibn Ziyad had effectively terminated European dominance of the Iberian peninsula. Musa ibn Nusayr, Arab governor of North Africa, joined Tarik in Spain and helped complete the conquest of Iberia with an army of 18,000 men. The two commanders met in Talavera, where the Moors were given the task of subduing the northwest of Spain. With vigor and speed they set about their mission, and within three months they had swept the entire territory north of the Ebro River as far as the Pyrenees Mountains and annexed the turbulent Basque country.

In the aftermath of these brilliant struggles, thousands of Moors flooded into the Iberian peninsula. So eager were they to come that some are said to have floated over on tree-trunks. Tarik himself, at the conclusion of his illustrious military career, retired to the distant East, we are informed, to spread the teachings of Islam.

THE INFLUENCE OF THE MOORS IN SPAIN AND PORTUGAL

The same degree of intellect and learning was brought by the Moorish conquerors of the Iberian peninsula to Portugal. Like Spain, that country was to be culturally influenced by the Moors. Its association with Africa dates as far back as the fourth and fifth centuries when Africans arrived in southern Europe. But it was in 711 A.D. that they marched in as conquerors under the command of Tarik. To reinforce what has been said earlier these Moors, as the early writers chronicled, were "black or dark people, some being very black."

After the invasion of 711 came other waves of Moors even darker. It was this occupation of Portugal which accounts for the fact that even noble families had absorbed the blood of the Moor.

From that time onwards, racial mixing in Portugal, as in Spain, and elsewhere in Europe which came under the influence of Moors, took place on a large scale. That is why historians claim that "Portugal is in reality a Negroid land," and that when Napoleon explained that "Africa begins at the Pyrenees," he meant every word that he uttered. Even the world-famed shrine in Portugal, Fatima, where Catholic pilgrims from all over the world go in search of miracle cures for their afflictions, owes its origin to the Moors. The story goes that a Portuguese nobleman was so saddened by the death of his wife, a young Moorish beauty whom he had married after her conversion to the Christian faith, that he gave up his title and fortune and entered a monastery. His wife was buried on a high plateau called Sierra de Aire. It is from there that the name of Fatima is derived.

The Moors ruled and occupied Lisbon and the rest of the country until well into the twelfth century. They were finally defeated and driven out by the forces of King Alfonso Henriques, who was aided by English and Flemish crusaders. The scene of this battle was the Castelo de Sao Jorge or, in English, the Castle of St. George. Today, it still stands, overlooking the city of "Lashbuna"--as the Moors named Lisbon.

The defeat of the Moors did not put an end to their influence on Portugal. The African (Moorish) presence can be seen everywhere in Portugal; in the architecture of many of the buildings. They still retain their Moorish design--like the Praca De Toiros--the Bull Ring in Lisbon. A walk through Alfama--the oldest quarter in Lisbon, with its fifteenth century houses, narrow-winding streets--dates back to the time when it was the last settlement of the Moors. Fado singers abound in all corners and bistros of Afalma. Their songs and rhythms owe much to the influence of the Moorish musicians centuries ago. Even the fishing boats on the beaches of Cascais show marked African traces. Called the rabelos, these boats, with their large red or white sails, which also ply on the Douro River to fetch wine from the upper valleys, are reminiscent of the transport boats of Lagos in Nigeria.
